Church of the Advent is built.

1888

Architect: John Sturgis. Sturgis & Brigham. And R. Clipston Sturgis. Designed in the Early English/High Victorian style (Gothic Revival style) and built of pink Nova Scotia sandstone, it is located at 30 Brimmer Street. Although services are held beginning in 1883, the building is not substantially completed until 1888, and it is not consecrated until December 1, 1894. The Reredos altar screen is designed by J.H. Sturgis and donated by Isabella Stewart Gardner in 1883. The Lady Chapel is designed by Ralph Adams Cram and Bertram Goodhue in 1894 and the Holy Rood by Ralph Adams Cram in 1925.
